Why I'm Proud to be a Cat Lady
I have a cat; his name is Muffin and has been with me since he was a kitten. He is the sweetest guy, steals everyone’s hearts and loves to cuddle. In no way does my love for this cat equate to me being crazy or single forever. What it does say is that I am capable of love, of being selfless, of caring for a life beyond my own.
Sure, we cat ladies can be a bit odd to non-cat people. There are certain colors of clothes I just don’t buy because my cat’s fur will show on every inch of it. As much as I love a good fringe I avoid wearing it for fear my cat will attack me. I own at least five lint rollers and even offer them to guests before they leave my apartment. If I find out a man I like is allergic to cats then it’s already over before it begins. And there have been an occasion or two when I broke up with a guy because he didn’t get along with my cat.
All of these things don’t make me insane, and you know what? I don’t care if others think they do. I’m taking a stand, and I’m taking back the “crazy cat lady” label. Being a cat lady means I love my cat because he is my best friend, the one who is always there for a cuddle when I’m feeling down. It means I care for my cat, worry about his health, and will even spend my last ten dollars to buy his food if it ever comes to that.
If you are with me, if you see yourself in what I have said then join me. Don’t be afraid of the old, drawn-out stereotype of women who love their cats. This stigma has never been placed on a man with his dog so why can’t we love our cats just as much? Stand tall! Be proud! We love our cats, and we’re damn proud of it!
